07.21.14: Bida ang sarap!
Hello, dolls!! Happy Sunday!!! Our third pre-cana class just ended and ahhhh I can’t believe that we are almost at the end of this beautiful journey. We had an amazing day today! Although I must say, I overslept a little haha (but hey! I deserve it after working almost 13 hours yesterday!) So we went to church and had brunch at one of the best brunch places here in Baltimore, then had a good afternoon in class. How I love Sundays like this! Earlier, I prayed for more meaningful Sundays like today this year. My heart breaks just thinking about February ending so soon…and how after the wedding our work schedules will most likely get in the way. Thank God for our pre-cana because we get to be on the same page about our relationship and important things without getting into an argument or trying too hard.
So we are just 6 days away from Valentine’s….meaning 6 days until my father-in-law turns 60! What’s exciting about it is that we will be in New Jersey the day after so I am pretty hyped up about that. A short vacation is much needed for A and I!
I have 6 days to dream about our upcoming getaway, for now I’ll blog about our New York side trip that happened over the summer.
A would often say that he wishes we have Jollibee close to us. When we are in New Jersey, he would drop hints saying we should go to Jollibee for lunch.
So when we were in New York we decided to take the girls cause they’ve never tried Jollibee.
2 buckets of fried chicken, rice, 4 large fries, 4 sundaes, yumburger, and my avocado pearl shake…. YES! When in Jollibee….YOU GO BIG! 😉 (more…)
09.01.14: My Asian Guy
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 Happy Monday!! The past week was very rewarding and blessed for the Filipinos due to the Papal Visit. Hearing stories from my family who went to see him 4 days in a row just gave me so much happiness. I feel like it was a very fruitful 4 days and I wish I could have went with them. It’s been 4 months since I’ve been home and I miss it terribly. Lucky for me, I have this blog and a gazillion photos to share so I get to reminisce about moments during my homecoming and feel like it wasn’t very long ago.
I was very happy to welcome September 2014 in Manila. Apart from the happiness that I was feeling for being home, A arrived at 3AM in the morning, making September 1st one of the best day last year.
So what do we on A’s first day back in the Philippines? Try to fight jet lag until 7AM, take a nap, then leave for lunch. Probably not the most ideal time frame but it worked for us a couple of times. haha
So what did we do to make a feel at home in the Philippines??5 letters—- RAMEN!
We went to Nomama Artisnal Ramen because I am on a mission…and that is to take A to all of the great ramen places in the Philippines. I did not want to exhaust A so I’ve decided to go somewhere close to us. Nomama, which is 15 minutes away from us, came to mind so we went there.
07.20.14: Summer Adventures
Hello, dolls! I was supposed to post this last night, but I felt really sick. ughh We had our first snowfall 3 days ago, so I guess this is how my body is adjusting. Coming from a tropical country, wherein you can only distinguish the weather as hot or hotter (lol), my body is really not used to winter. I am not a fan of winter, in fact I am already counting the days until it’s over. If it weren’t for the outfits that I can wear, I would probably abhor it. Since I am in dire need of anything that will keep me warm throughout the day, I am going to share with you our NYC food adventure this past summer. Talking about summer and a Filipino restaurant (cause it’s always warm in the Philippines) will surely help me stay cozy.
A wawa stop is always part of our schedule when we go to NJ or NY. And of course, I do not leave without a nice cold peach yogurt smoothie to keep me energized. haha
I like how Wawa has healthy food and drink choices!
A and I has a long list of places that we want to go to — overseas, here in Baltimore, other big states, and of course..New York.
I am very happy to say that we crossed off a lot of restaurants on our list last year. Including restaurants that are not very close to us… yay!
Filipino cuisine is still trying to make its way to be known and loved globally. It’s only now that a number of Filipino restaurants here in Baltimore opened up (3 years ago I only knew about 2, this year… we have 2 more Filipino restaurants close to us now yay!). So imagine our excitement when we found out about Jeepney, 1 of the 12 restaurants in New York that we know of. (more…)
HAPPY NEW YEAR, DOLLS!!! 🙂 I know I promised that I will post an entry yesterday, but aaah the last day of 2014 was a crazy roller coaster ride that ended with so much excitement! Anyway, looking back I realized that posting an entry on the first day of the year is probably a good way to start a progressive blogging year 😉 Only 3 months until I get to be in the arms of my family again, and aaaah I can’t wait! So today, as my first blog of the year, I will look back to my memorable trip back home.
I don’t think I can ever get used to not being with my family, especially during the holidays. A lot of people tell me that it seems like I have adjusted to my new life here already. but honestly, I still yearn for my family’s presence…every waking day.
I left a week before A. We all know how hard it could be to ask time off from work. I am blessed that I work with people who understands my situation so they allowed me to get a month off.
It was a bittersweet departure for me. It’s always hard to leave Baltimore alone.. (more…)
05.27.14: Virginia and us
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Happy (almost) weekend! Halloween is literally right around the corner and guess what??? No dressing up for me this year :(( It’s a shame that I can’t have weekends off unless it’s for something really important. No need to fret though cause I have good weekends ahead of me (hint: birthday month).
A few days ago, I was blessed with another challenging situation. It’s not as complicated as the other things that I am dealing with now. I wasn’t planning to react to it but I thought this could also be a perfect opportunity to inspire someone who is going through the same thing. I hope I can make this short so I can move on to my happy post. Haha
“I don’t understand why someone would do this to you. You are always busy here in the apartment, sitting on the couch while watching your shows if not blogging or talking to your family, most days you are at work. Why would someone do this? When you’ve done nothing”. Those were A’s words when I showed him what’s happening, It is very peculiar to have someone cyber bully me when I’ve done nothing but to live my life here. It’s crazy how I am a gazillion miles away from my home country and yet someone finds a way to try and hurt me (but news flash: it’s not working!). We all have our fair share of struggles, and I like mine to be dealt discretely as possible. I think everyone who has seen me before would agree that I look VERY different now,I matured and love life more. No make up, clothes, and shoes can ever make me look the way I am now than the love I have inside of me. Love for my family, partner in life, passion, life -life- life, and my faith. I sometimes think that the people who chooses to hurt others are those who needs love and affection. I pity them because they find happiness in trying to hurt someone and think that it’s okay to find happiness in someone else’s misery. These are just some of the things that I think about my #hater/s. As crazy as it sounds, someone actually took the time to make fun and torment me. All I can think about now is how
I wish that person know s how hard it is for me to wake up each day and know that I won’t be eating breakfast with my Dad..or lunch..or dinner. That most of the time I choose not to eat anything because there is no one to eat with. I wish I can tell that person how I spent years and years of being called names and made fun of for being fat. I wonder if that person knows how it feels like to be bullied…because I do.
Soooo moving on….I still think it’s crazy (…and cute) that I am marrying a man who is so fascinated about Asian food. Whenever I tell him about an Asian restaurant he does not think twice about going to that place. Even if it will take us an hour or so…just like our trip to Fairfax. (more…)
Hello, dolls!!:) I can’t believe that I am back in MNL!! Aaaah it still feels surreal that I am in my pink room now blogging!! 🙂 The past 2 days has been lovely and I am so grateful for warmth welcome that I received from everyone especially my family. It is so nice to wake up in the morning and have breakfast with my parents again, have my sister as a roommate, and just be in the presence of my family — it almost feels like I never left.
It’s a blessing to have 2 places that I can call home. Last year, I thought I couldn’t let go of the idea of not calling Manila my only home, I felt like if I do so I will spend my life fighting time just to be with my family or it will make my chances of going home slim — and yes, I do not take family matters lightly. But with the help of A, his family, and our friends, I realized that I do not have to let go of MNL just so I can call Baltimore my home too. Some people, like me, are just fortunate to be blessed with an amazing life at the other side of the world, miles and miles away from home..
I know I have not posted enough “B-more updates” since February. Not enough cause there is a handful of amazing things that happened since I returned to my second home. So here is one, some of the things that helped/helps me love Baltimore everyday.
What I have on my vanity.
Family picture, a photo of my Dad and I when I was only n months old, cute little bear from my jeje-brother, the heart pen that my sister gave me…
…personalized key chain from my brother Remo, and an Eiffel tower stand up pin from my sissy. ❤
Having these on my vanity makes me feel like they are not too far away from me. It reminds me of how blessed I am to have a family that is so understanding and supportive.
Hello dolls and hello APRIL!!! It’s official, A and I are only days away from celebrating our second anniversary. The weather is getting nicer now and I am just hoping that our anniversary weekend will be as good as last year’s. Anyway, one of the things that I am missing terribly is authentic Filipino food. It’s so weird cause I am not really the kind of Filipino who requests for Pinoy food every week, when I was still home I would often suggest Japanese,Chinese, Thai, Mediterranean, European or Italian food when we go out. BUT one thing that I could not resist are Filipino Desserts! I cannot go a week without having my kakanin or ube fix. And I must say, I go gaga over ube.
Best ube dessert I had!!!
Uhhhh why can’t I just have this now??? Whyyyy!!?!?
The person behind this amazing ube leche flan cake is probably the nicest and coolest Chef that I know. And I am not only saying this cause she understands my kaartehan BUT because she really is amazing like that.
Two of the best Filipino desserts in one?? YES PLEASE!
I wish I have a better photo of this heavenly delight when I ordered the first time, but my family just massacred this thing after I opened the box. It was toooo good!!!
I am such a fan. I can’t sit and just look at her posts on Facebook when she launched her “Dulce Queso Mamon and Smore’s”.
It’s such a shame cause Chef Ann just came up with another dessert and I am like 1 million miles away from the Philippines!! 😐 I swear when I get back I am going to order the biggest ube leche flan cake and the new baby!! 🙂
